DAY 1

Introduction to Bootcamp- schedules and discuss expectations


*Closing speech- GEU is busy, might need to come in on Monday of placement.


Placement UPDATE:

-Lots of no’s- unfortunately

-Sky/BBC are scoping out opportunities

-ESA to use Elstree Studios equipment to make short film- hopes to go into a film festival

Be careful with music Music match the work- no intense music over calm plot

Alfie Abel- SET DESIGNER AND Construction


Questions for Alfie-


What advice can you give to someone starting out in the industry?/How did you make the jump from education to working in the industry? Contacts and emails.Contacts- important! Write to anyone !

Pitching yourself-make yourself stand out - confidence is KEY! If you cant do something, try your hardest. Be HONEST

Get as much experience as possible!- paid or not paid/its just experience

Know your worth

Driving- use your own car. Its probably for the best if you are able to drive/ full licence .


Have you felt particularly proud of any work you have been part of - photos? French set for Killing Eve /tv looks familiar. Lots of dogs on set.


What is an average day like on set? Prepare for long hours, sacrifice. Don't tire yourself out. Find the work/life balance. Work hard and give all you got. Know your limits don’t overdo it. Give 80%. Keep your receipts- purchases can be written off as tax. Everyone has a different working style. Meet everyone you can on set (even those not relevant to your pathway). 10:30 and 1 breaks .


What was the turning point in your career?- the crown season 5. A good starting point/exposure are the BFI- Summer courses.


What is the pay like?- varies from job to job. Example- Labourer for construction is 185 a day. Sparkies 500 day.



DAY 2

Michelle Perkins- Career


She is a hair and make-up artist @makeupartistrylondon


-Absorb all that you can whilst learning about your specialist subject.

-have a look for external ways- i.e. mp won a competition from ‘top of the pops’ magazine and got to be a makeup assistant for the day


Branding and Self Marketing- Seb Alfano

Start something,ANYTHING- perfect example you don't really know a lot of different stuff and you're trying different things right and you're learning something every time you try something so it doesn't really matter

RUNNING A SMALL BUSINESS BASED ON HOVERBOARDS- builds confidence, developed people skills, tried different ways of selling/marketing- physical and digital, started to build network, everything builds your skills, knowledge and confidence



How to develop your branding- you your company and your image

Logo should be updated regularly to keep up with your business

So you can schedule posts in different ways

Social media pages, industry forums, freelancing websites and groups, friends and family, exhibitions, local business groups,google listings, BNI- Business Networking company (industry morning meetings)


  • Talk to people

  • Communicate well

  • Always put 100% in!

  • Go the extra mile

  • Learn to email

  • Believe in yourself- try things that might be out of your comfort zones

  • Be active on social media

  • Join facebook groups

  • Call people

  • Collaborate with competition and colleagues

SAY YES AND WORRY ABOUT IT LATER
