What are design proposals and research needed to start the project? Why do you need to do this?
Research will help you to get a better understanding of the project and will allow you to build upon your knowledge when it comes to the actual production process.
Design proposals allow you to set out a plan of how you want everything to look and then you can give it to directors to see if it fits with their vision too.
The design proposals:
The design proposal for this specific task is to highlight opportunities using a cinematic genre piece that focuses on one particular location. The design proposal will be different for each scene but has a common theme- showcasing the Dacorum boroughs. One example of a design proposal is a period piece for scene 2, which we need to create props for that is set in the 1800’s and showcases a regent wedding (think Bridgerton). The piece is a period piece.
I will confer with the producers and model/prop makers to relay important information .
What is a brief? Treatment/design brief? Why is it important to have these?
Design brief- design brief is a document for a design project developed by a person or team (the designer or design team) in consultation with the client/customer. They outline the deliverables and scope of the project including any products or works (function and aesthetics), timing and budget.
Treatment brief- a short document that presents an idea for a film in a clear, concise, dramatic and persuasive way.
Why is it important to have these?
A treatment brief is important as it is designed to grab the attention and excite the interest of a producer, commissioner, director or other collaborator, and to 'sell' the idea and its creative and commercial potential. A design brief, however, is important as it helps develop trust and understanding between the client and the designer.
What are the requirements of the brief?
ESA Productions has been commissioned by Dacorum Council to produce 4-5 short scenes that showcase the various locations used for filming in Dacorum.
The films will aim to not only showcase the locations but they will also give the viewer a visual idea of what kind of productions might be suitable for a particular location.
Each scene will be a cinematic genre piece that focuses on one particular location. One may be science fiction. Another a period drama. It all depends on you and the location you will be assigned.
In the scenes we will also see actors dressed in costume corresponding with the location. For example, if it’s a victorian home, actors will be dressed in victorian garb.
What are the considerations of the brief?
Cinematic visuals.
Ambitious production quality.
Slick execution.
As well as staying on time and following the brief.
How will it be achieved?
A plan will be written out for each week so that we stay on task and on track to achieve deadlines
